PEF Bans Cash Payments for Teachers’ Salaries

The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has announced an immediate ban on cash payments for teachers’ salaries, implementing a digital payment system to enhance transparency and accountability. Moving forward, all teacher salaries will be processed through online transactions or bank accounts, according to a report by 24NewsHD TV.

A notification issued by PEF on Saturday outlined the policy change, stating that salary records will now be maintained in the Teachers’ Information System. This step is aimed at ensuring proper documentation and reducing the risks associated with cash transactions.

Schools that fail to comply with the new payment method will face strict consequences, including the potential revocation of their licenses, the notification warned.

The implementation of this policy comes as part of PEF’s broader initiative to modernize its financial processes and improve efficiency in the education sector. In the first phase of this transition, over 5,000 schools have been outsourced, employing approximately 10,000 teachers across Punjab.

Education experts and stakeholders have largely welcomed the move, considering it a step forward in promoting financial transparency and streamlining salary disbursements. However, some school administrators have expressed concerns about the challenges of transitioning to digital payments, particularly in remote areas where banking facilities may be limited.

The Punjab Education Foundation has assured that necessary support and guidance will be provided to schools to facilitate a smooth transition to the new payment system. Further updates on the implementation process are expected in the coming weeks.
