In a joint effort to foster religious tolerance and emphasize the pivotal role of universities in peace-building, the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) recently organized a thought-provoking seminar. The event, held at the Women’s University, aimed to engage students, educators, and scholars in meaningful discussions on promoting a more tolerant and harmonious society.

The seminar featured esteemed guests, with Dr. Tanveer Qasim, Director of Punjab Higher Education Commission, gracing the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, Dr. Qasim articulated the PHEC’s commitment to advancing religious tolerance within universities across Punjab. He highlighted the commission’s strategy of organizing seminars and dialogues to mobilize educational institutions in fostering a peaceful and tolerant environment.

“By encouraging open discussions and academic discourse on religious tolerance, we are actively working towards creating a society that values diversity and embraces differences,” stated Dr. Tanveer Qasim.

Dr. Qasim further shared insights into the PHEC’s initiatives, including the introduction of a PhD scheme aimed at promoting research on various pertinent topics. Emphasizing the importance of aligning research with societal needs, he underscored that the outcomes of local PhD programs would contribute significantly to national life.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Zareen Fatima applauded the efforts of the PHEC, affirming the importance of character building alongside academic education. She expressed gratitude for the commission’s endeavors in promoting tolerance within the academic community, emphasizing its value in shaping the future of the nation.

Prominent figures in academia, including Prof. Dr. Yasir Nawaz Manj, Prof. Dr. Ilyas, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq, and Dr. Shaghfata Firdous, participated in the seminar. The event attracted a substantial turnout of teachers and students, demonstrating widespread support for the cause of religious tolerance.

To commemorate the occasion, a shield of appreciation was presented to Dr. Tanveer Qasim at the conclusion of the seminar. The collaborative efforts of the Punjab Higher Education Commission and Government College Women University Sialkot are seen as a positive step towards nurturing a more inclusive and tolerant society through the academic sphere.
