Al-Qadir University (AQUPT) will not only impart modern education on the lines of the ideology of Pakistan, along with training youngsters in matters of spirituality and religion, said Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan while laying the foundation of a new varsity in Sohawa, Jhelum on Sunday.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, he said the Holy Prophet PBUH had emphasized the pertinence of acquiring education in order to achieve success in life. He said the Muslim world had produced eminent scholars, scientists and researchers in history because they followed the teachings of the Holy Prophet PBUH.
The PM said no society could progress without education. While highlighting the importance of ideology in the progress of a country, he added, “If an ideology becomes dead then the nation also meets a similar fate.” Imran said Pakistan will soon be transformed into an Islamic welfare state. “We will uphold law and justice and take responsibility for the welfare of the poor, elderly and women.”
He said this new varsity was named after the eminent Muslim saint Abdul Qadir Jilani, who developed a link between science and spirituality, adding the varsity will impart contemporary religious study, along with Sufism in the pursuit of training youngsters to face modern challenges.
Outlining the vision and objective of the establishment of Al-Qadir University Sohawa, he said that the varsity will not only impart scientific and technological education but will also revive the Islamic research culture. “The university will produce scholars who will emerge as leaders of tomorrow and will counter the western influence and negative propaganda against Islam.”
Imran said it was the right time to help the people of FATA, who were lagging behind in terms of education and progress. “The university will provide scholarships to 35 percent of students, along with free accommodation facility. We will run it on Namal University’s model. This varsity is not being established through government funds but through private fundraising,” he added.
The launch ceremony was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan, Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mehmood, Federal Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry and other officials.
