Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the development and well-being of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) during the groundbreaking ceremony for Ramday University in Islamabad on Thursday.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ramday University, situated at an altitude of 11,000 feet, will be one of the world’s highest-altitude universities, offering programs in environmental sciences, climate change, hydrology, and mineral studies.
The university, to be established in the Thagas area of Ghanche district, G-B, will focus on higher education and research, with support from the Ramday Trust, overseas Pakistanis, and other contributors.
PM Shehbaz praised Justice (R) Khalilur Rehman Ramday and his team for spearheading the initiative, emphasizing the importance of providing quality education in remote areas like Ghanche.
He also highlighted the role of private institutions in advancing education in Pakistan, noting that their graduates have made significant contributions across various sectors.
Justice Ramday informed attendees that the university will cover 200 kanals and offer specialized academic programs tailored to the region’s unique environmental and geographical conditions, positioning G-B as a hub for modern sciences and research.
Earlier, during his visit to G-B, the prime minister had announced a 100-megawatt solar project to address the region’s electricity needs and launched an education endowment fund for talented and deserving students.
Additionally, he mentioned that housing facilities had been provided to 62 families affected by recent floods, underscoring the federal government’s continued support for the region.
