Poster competition on the Environment organized at GCU

A poster competition was organized at the Government College University (GCU) Lahore on the theme of the environment by the GC University Biological society, on Thursday. Students and art lovers from different educational institutions participated in the said activity.

Government College University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah was the chief guest at the exhibition. Students from forty-five different colleges and universities displayed more than 83 art pieces at the poster competition held at GCU Abdus Salam Hall highlighting pertinent issues including pollution, water scarcity, climate change, plastic waste and other threats to biodiversity.

Addressing the participants, the vice chancellor said the role of art in education and raising awareness in society was critical, adding that it enabled them to see the world and the human condition differently.

“Artists raise questions and compel us to think,” he added. The Vice Chancellor also talked about the importance of animal protection, green energy, organic food and recycling. Eminent educator and research scientist Prof Dr Khalid Pervaiz lone from the Department of Zoology, Government College University also addressed the possible threats to biodiversity at the prize distribution ceremony.

Later, winners of Poster Competition were awarded prizes, shields and certificates.
