Pakistan’s famous scientist and academician Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman will receive the 7th FPCCI Achievement Award at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad, on Thursday.
The senior official of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (UoK) on Tuesday said that Prof Atta-ur-Rahman, who is currently serving as Chairman of Prime Minister’s Task Force on Science and Technology, had been nominated for this prestigious award in recognition of his meritorious services in science and technology sector of the national economy. President Dr Arif Alvi will confer the award in the 7th Achievement Awards Ceremony, organised by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
Prof Rahman has also served as the Federal Minister for Science and Technology and Higher Education Commission Chairman. He obtained his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Cambridge University (1968). He has 1157 publications in several fields of organic chemistry, including 771 research publications, 43 international patents, 70 chapters in books and 271 books published largely by major U.S. and European presses. He is the Editor-in-Chief of eight European Chemistry journals. and Editor of the world’s leading encyclopedic series of volumes on natural products “Studies in Natural Product Chemistry” 62 volumes of which have been published under his editorship in the last two decades. As many as 82 students have completed their Ph.D. degrees under his supervision. He has also been awarded various national and international awards in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of science and technology.
University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid M. Irqai and ICCBS Director Prof Dr M. Iqbal Choudhary congratulated Prof Atta-ur Rahman, and declared his outstanding achievement as an honour not only for the international center but also for the University.
