The Punjab University (PU) Institute of Social & Cultural Studies (ISCS) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Punjab Probation and Parole Services (PP&PS), Home Department, Government of Punjab. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during a ceremony attended by prominent figures from both institutions, including ISCS Director Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar and Director General of PP&PS, Muhammad Shahid Iqbal.
The agreement, aimed at fostering collaboration in academic and research endeavors, will offer internship opportunities for ISCS students within the PP&PS. This hands-on experience is expected to provide valuable insights into the workings of probation and parole services, bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application.
Both institutions have committed to working together on a series of initiatives, including research projects, policy development, and the organization of conferences and seminars. This partnership also promises the joint production of research publications, contributing to the body of knowledge in the fields of social and cultural studies as well as criminal justice.
Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the importance of integrating academic research with real-world practices. “This MoU opens up new avenues for our students and faculty to engage with critical issues in criminal justice and social welfare,” she remarked.
Director General Muhammad Shahid Iqbal echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the potential for the MoU to influence policy-making and improve the effectiveness of probation and parole services in Punjab. He was joined by key members of his team, including Mr Arif Umar Aziz, Director, Ms Ayesha Allah Ditta, Assistant Director (Administration), and Mr Naeem Ghafoor, Parole Officer (Headquarters).
The signing of this MoU marks the beginning of what both parties anticipate will be a productive and impactful partnership, benefiting not only the academic community but also the wider public through enhanced service delivery and informed policy-making.
