CAMB Hosts Workshop on Ethical Use of AI Tools

Punjab University’s Center for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB) recently hosted a significant workshop titled ‘Ethical Use of AI Tools in Academic Writing – A Hands-on Workshop’. This event marks a pivotal moment in the academic and research spheres, showcasing the increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence into scholarly pursuits. The workshop drew the participation of 55 onsite and 15 virtual attendees, including faculty members keen on incorporating AI technologies into their academic endeavors.

Distinguished figures such as CAMB Director, Prof. Dr. Rehan Sadiq Shaikh, Coordinator of CAMB’s Creative Club, Dr. Muhammad Usman Ghani, along with faculty members, researchers, and students, graced the occasion. Prof. Dr. Rehan Sadiq emphasized the workshop’s significance in shaping new standards of academic excellence and innovation within the life sciences community. He highlighted the valuable feedback received from participants, which has inspired CAMB to consider organizing future events delving deeper into the intersection of technology and academia, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to leading in this field.

Dr. Muhammad Usman Ghani extended a warm welcome to the participants, commending the efforts of the Creative Club’s President, Aqsa Ashraf, and Vice President, Asif Muneer, whose dedication ensured a seamless and enriching experience for all attendees. The workshop agenda covered a wide array of topics, including navigating ethical considerations in paper writing using AI tools, efficient literature searches via platforms like Perplexity.ai, in-depth manuscript analysis with SciSpace, reference management with Zotero, literature visualization with Litmaps, and manuscript drafting and editing using Paperpal. Participants gained essential skills to navigate the AI-enhanced landscape of academic research, emphasizing integrity and efficiency.

In another initiative, the Punjab University (PU) administration, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood, is gearing up to host Pakistan’s largest three-day book fair from March 7th to 9th, 2024, at the New Campus. A meeting of the Book Fair Coordination Committee was convened to review all arrangements, with heads of various committees in attendance.

Addressing the gathering, VC Dr. Khalid Mahmood stressed the importance of ensuring the success of the book fair, affirming the university’s commitment to this grand event. He highlighted that renowned national and international publishers would grace the fair with their presence, offering a diverse selection of literature. Dr. Khalid Mahmood also emphasized the provision of affordable books, ensuring accessibility to all participants of the fair.
