Punjab University (PU) successfully organized its entrance test for undergraduate admissions on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the academic calendar. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, accompanied by Chairman of the Test Committee Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry, visited several examination centers to oversee the process.
In a media briefing, Dr Mahmood disclosed that over 40,000 students registered for the entrance test, which was conducted in 18 major cities across Pakistan. “Examination centers have been set up in key locations including Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Gilgit, Skardu, and Dera Ismail Khan, among others,” he stated. He highlighted that a total of 130 examination centers were established nationwide, with 86 centers specifically in Lahore.
Dr Mahmood detailed that seven distinct types of entry tests were administered to cater to the diverse range of undergraduate programs offered by the university. He emphasized the importance of the entrance test, noting that it accounts for 25 percent of the total marks required for undergraduate admissions.
To facilitate the large number of candidates and their families, Punjab University implemented several supportive measures. Guidance camps were set up on both the New Campus and the Old Campus to assist students, and a shuttle bus service was provided to ensure smooth transportation. Additionally, special arrangements were made to accommodate parents accompanying their children.
Dr Mahmood confirmed that the results of the entry test will be announced on June 26, 2024, concluding the initial phase of the admission process.
The successful execution of such a large-scale entrance test reflects Punjab University’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and ensuring a fair admission process for all aspiring students across the country.
