PU Hosts Exhibition Showcasing Artistic Heritage

Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood highlighted the significant role that the PU College of Art and Design (CAD) has played in the promotion of art education in Pakistan. He made these remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of an art exhibition organized by the college.

The event was attended by an array of distinguished guests, including Principal CAD Dr Samina Naseem, former principals Dr Rahat Naveed Masood, Shahnawaz Zaidi, Zaulqarnain Haider, Khalid Mehmood, Zafarullah, Maleeha Agha, and former eminent faculty members Rukhsana David, Rukh Nilofar Kahkshan, Mussarat Hasan, and Khalid Iqbal. Faculty members and students also graced the occasion.

The exhibition featured a diverse collection of artworks created by the college’s teachers and notable artists, showcasing the rich history and creative contributions of the institution. In his address, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood emphasized the college’s longstanding legacy, noting that the Department of Fine Arts at Punjab University was established as early as 1940. He praised the artworks of the alumni, many of which have received international acclaim.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was a special section dedicated to artworks reflecting the Pakistan Movement, illustrating the deep connection between art and the country’s history. Additionally, the works of Anna Molka, a renowned artist and one of the pioneers of art education in Pakistan, were also prominently displayed, further enriching the event.

The exhibition served as a testament to the enduring impact of the PU College of Art and Design on the national and global art scenes, celebrating the achievements of its faculty, alumni, and students.
