Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali emphasized the importance of promoting the Arabic language to understand the Holy Quran and foster stronger ties among Muslim nations. He shared these remarks during the opening session of a two-day international conference on Arabic Language Day, held at Al Raazi Hall on Wednesday.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The conference, themed “Autobiography: Arabic Literature”, was organized by the Department of Arabic and witnessed the participation of delegates from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, and Pakistan, along with faculty members, researchers, and students.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali highlighted the role of Arabic as a unifying force for the Muslim Ummah. He urged the need to rise above sectarian divisions to build a united, welfare-oriented state rooted in Islamic values. Reflecting on the subcontinent’s history, he commended the Sufis for their pivotal role in spreading Islam. He also applauded the organizers for their efforts in arranging an impactful event.
Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood and Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the close connection between Urdu and Arabic languages. Prof Dr Kamran underscored the challenges of writing autobiographies, noting that such conferences enable participants to share experiences, foster academic collaboration, and expand students’ knowledge.
Principal of Oriental College, Prof Dr Nabila Rehman, praised the conference for addressing the literary and real-life implications of autobiography as a genre. She remarked that literature connects ideas to reality, making this theme particularly relevant.
Chairman of the Department of Arabic, Prof Dr Hamid Ashraf Hamdani, welcomed the international delegates and announced that over 65 research papers would be presented during the two-day event.
The conference continues today, offering a platform for scholars and students to delve deeper into Arabic literature and its significance in modern times.
