Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has emphasized the urgent need to introduce cutting-edge trends and emerging fields into engineering curricula to produce high-quality human resources for national progress. He was addressing the inaugural session of the first international conference on ‘Advancements in Engineering Sciences,’ organized by the Institute of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering (IEECE) at PU on Monday.

Faculty members from various institutions and a large number of students also participated.
Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, while addressing the gathering, underscored the importance of launching new technology programs in diverse fields of engineering at PU. “There is enormous potential in engineering fields across developing countries, and students must keep pace with global trends,” he said. He highlighted artificial intelligence as a transformative force across industries, urging electrical engineers to gain proficiency in AI.
He also emphasized the growing significance of research in alternative energy sources, noting that the world offers vast opportunities for students to compete and excel. Commending Dr Tanveer Tabish for becoming an Associate Professor at the University of Oxford through dedication and perseverance, Dr Muhammad Ali praised the conference organizers for fostering collaboration through this international event.
Prof Dr Muhammad Azhar Naeem said that the conference is being organized in partnership with international and national institutions, including the University of Malaya and the University of Management and Technology (UMT). He added that research papers on modern engineering trends will be presented, benefiting students through exposure to insights from national and international experts.
Dr JeyRaj, speaking online from the University of Malaya, highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange among international researchers. He emphasized the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing global challenges through engineering innovations.
Prof Dr Kamran Abid remarked that Punjab University is committed to equipping students with modern skills, announcing that two new engineering programs aligned with current industry needs will be launched soon.
The conference aims to bridge gaps between academia and industry by promoting the latest developments in engineering sciences, offering students a platform to engage with experts and explore new opportunities for research and growth.
