The Punjab University (PU) Department of Political Science has embarked on a significant intellectual endeavor with the commencement of a two-day hybrid international conference titled “Democracy, Governance, and Sustainability”. The inaugural ceremony, held at Al Raazi Hall on Wednesday, witnessed the convergence of distinguished figures including senior journalist Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami, Vice Chancellor of Minhaj University Lahore (MUL) Dr. Sajid Mehmood Shehzad, Executive Director of Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF) Khalid Taimur Akram, Chairperson of the Department of Political Science Prof. Dr. Iram Khalid, alongside faculty members, researchers, and students.
The conference served as a platform for insightful discussions and presentations revolving around the core themes of democratic principles, effective governance, and sustainable practices. Notably, speakers shed light on the evolving landscape of democratic norms, emphasizing that the reevaluation of these norms is not exclusive to the East but is also pertinent in the Western context.
Sessions throughout the conference delved into the intersection of technology, artificial intelligence, and information management in contemporary governance structures. Addressing the audience, Dr. Iram Khalid commended the efforts of Prof. Dr. Rehana Saeed Hashmi and her team for orchestrating a fruitful conference. She highlighted the diverse array of topics covered, spanning from sustainable development facilitated by artificial intelligence to the pivotal role of institutions and organizations in upholding democratic institutionalism both in Pakistan and globally.
With over 90 national and international research papers presented, the conference encapsulated a broad spectrum of perspectives and insights, fostering meaningful dialogue and scholarly exchange. The participation of esteemed academics, practitioners, and students underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by democratic societies worldwide.
As the conference progresses, it promises to chart a course towards actionable solutions and innovative approaches, aiming to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on democracy, governance, and sustainability in the contemporary era.
