PU Marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Punjab University (PU) Child Welfare Center (CWC) marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a heartwarming ceremony at Waheed Shaheed Hall, underscoring the importance of empowering children with special abilities to become active members of society.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, addressing the gathering, emphasized the collective responsibility of society in nurturing the potential of children with special needs. He praised the role of parents, teachers, and caregivers in enhancing these children’s skills and expressed his commitment to integrating them into mainstream education.

“Punjab University is the oldest and most prestigious educational institution in Pakistan, and our work in the education of children with special needs is one of the most commendable aspects of our legacy,” he said. Prof Dr Ali also announced plans to promote inclusive education by enabling special children to learn alongside their peers in regular classrooms.

The event featured tableaus performed by special children, earning applause from the audience, which included Acting Director of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) Prof Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry, Principal of CWC Dr Ayesha Wajihullah, Chairman of Allah Walay Trust Shahid Lone, faculty members, students, and parents.

Dr Ayesha Wajihullah highlighted the unique abilities of special children and reaffirmed PU CWC’s commitment to recognizing their potential and integrating them into society. “Allah Almighty has blessed these children with unique gifts, and it is our duty to help them thrive,” she said.

The event reflected PU’s dedication to inclusive education and its pivotal role in fostering an environment where children with special needs can flourish.
