Punjab University (PU) has taken a significant step towards environmental conservation with the launch of a tree plantation drive on campus. The initiative, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, saw the planting of fruit trees near Gate No. 3 and in the lawn of the PU Club.
The event, held on Wednesday, was attended by several distinguished guests, including Dr Raa’na Malik, Chairperson of the Department of Gender Studies, and Dr Munawar Iqbal, Chairman of PU Club. Faculty members and other stakeholders also participated in the ceremony, highlighting the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood emphasized the importance of a “Green Pakistan,” which he described as crucial for restoring the country’s natural beauty and ensuring sustainable development. He underscored the need for collective action to plant trees, reduce pollution, and conserve natural resources to create a healthier environment for future generations.
Dr Mahmood also encouraged teachers and faculty members to actively participate in the initiative by planting trees in their surroundings and taking responsibility for their care. “A greener environment is not just about planting trees; it’s about nurturing them and ensuring they thrive for a better future,” he remarked.
The tree plantation drive at Punjab University is part of a broader effort to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices within the academic community and beyond.
