The Punjab University (PU) Library Book Club recently held an engaging event featuring introductory talks on two books—one in Urdu and another in English. The session was attended by Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani, faculty members, and a large gathering of students.

The Urdu book discussed was “Sohrab Sepehri: Aenoon ki Jheel,” a selection of Persian poetry translated by Moeen Nizami. The talk on this poetic masterpiece was delivered by Prof Dr Marghoob Hussain Tahir, a Professor of Urdu Language at Osaka University, Japan. His insightful commentary on the Persian poet Sohrab Sepehri captivated the audience, shedding light on the poetic depth and aesthetic beauty of the work.

The second discussion revolved around *”Buying Buddha, Selling Rumi: Orientalism and the Mystical Marketplace”* by Sophia Rose Arjana. Dr Rasheed Arshad, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy, presented this talk, exploring themes of orientalism and the commercialization of mysticism in the modern world.

In his concluding remarks, Dr Usmani expressed his gratitude to the speakers for their enlightening presentations and thanked the participants for their enthusiastic involvement. He appreciated the Book Club’s role in fostering a love for literature and critical thinking among students.
