In a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities and resources of public libraries, Punjab University (PU) Library, in collaboration with the Archives and Libraries Wing of the Government of Punjab, organized a comprehensive training workshop. The event saw the participation of several key figures, including Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani, Secretary Archives and Libraries Zahoor Hussain, Deputy Chief Librarian Syed Saleem Abbas Zaidi, and Director General of Public Libraries, along with numerous other dignitaries and librarians from various parts of Punjab.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with advanced skills in online searching, utilizing free online resources, and leveraging library resources for research and innovation. In his opening address, Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani extended a warm welcome to the attendees and emphasized the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in the field of library sciences. Syed Saleem Abbas Zaidi echoed these sentiments, providing valuable insights and techniques to the participants.
Secretary Zahoor Hussain highlighted the workshop’s crucial role in driving policy decisions to foster innovation and creativity within Punjab’s public libraries. He expressed his gratitude to the Punjab University Library for organizing such an impactful event and underscored the importance of sustained collaboration to unlock further opportunities for public libraries. Hussain lauded the efforts of the PU Library team for their dedication to continuous professional development, hoping that this cooperation would expand and bring numerous benefits to public libraries across the region.
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to work together towards the betterment of public libraries, ensuring they remain vital centers of knowledge and innovation in Punjab.
