The Faculty of Islamic Studies at Punjab University (PU), in collaboration with the Institute of Islamic Studies, Seerat Chair, and the SOS Foundation, organized a thought-provoking seminar titled “Education and Training of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Modern Institutions.” The event gathered distinguished scholars, faculty members, and students to discuss the enduring relevance of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) teachings in contemporary educational contexts.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The seminar featured prominent speakers, including Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi, Founder Chairman of the Forum for International Relations Development (FIRD) UK, Toaha Qureshi, Prof. Seerat Chair Dr. Asim Naeem, former Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Shaista Sohail, and Prof Dr Hamid Ashraf Hamdani.
In his opening address, Dr Hammad Lakhvi underscored the seminar’s significance, emphasizing that the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) serves as a guiding light for Muslims. “Success in this world and the hereafter can only be achieved by adhering to the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH),” Dr. Lakhvi remarked.
Prof Dr Asim Naeem addressed the impact of modernization, globalization, and global changes on higher education institutions. He highlighted the evolving challenges in formulating educational objectives, theories, curricula, and teaching methods in today’s rapidly changing world.
Dr Shaista Sohail introduced the SOS Foundation and its objectives, stating that Allah has declared the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as the ideal example for the Muslim Ummah. She emphasized the importance of integrating the Prophet’s teachings into contemporary educational frameworks.
Prof Dr Hamid Ashraf Hamdani elaborated on the significance of education and training in Seerat-e-Tayiba (PBUH). He presented relevant verses and hadiths, asserting that the educational practices of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) remain a beacon for all eras.
Toaha Qureshi discussed various facets of the educational policies established by the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He stressed the necessity for reforms in the current education and training systems to meet the evolving demands of the time.
The seminar concluded with several key recommendations: updating curricula, selecting well-trained teachers, regularly reviewing educational needs, incorporating the Prophet’s biography at all education levels, establishing Seerat Chairs in universities, and promoting research on the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The event highlighted the timeless relevance of the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and called for their integration into modern educational institutions to address contemporary challenges and foster a holistic approach to education.
