Punjab University (PU) on Thursday organized a condolence reference to pay tribute to internationally acknowledged poet, writer, teacher, researcher and former Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning and Principal Oriental College Dr Syed Muhammad Akram Shah Ikram at Al Raazi Hall. On this occasion, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Iranian Consul General Muhammad Reza Nazeri, former VC and PVC Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, eminent writer Dr Khawaja Muhammad Zakaria, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Moeen Nizami, faculty members and eminent personalities from the field of literature participated in the event.
In his address, Dr Niaz said that Dr Akram Shah had all the qualities of an excellent teacher and researcher. He said that Dr Shah had high moral values and strength of character. He said that Dr Shah reflected his knowledge in his character which all teachers should emulate. He said that the Iranian Consul General was playing an important role in strengthening the relations between Pakistan and Iran. He said that Dr Akram Shah created vast knowledge in literature and his Encyclopedia of Islam was a great masterpiece. He said that Dr Akram Shah also became the first honorary member of the Academy of Letters outside Iran which is a great honor indeed.
Iranian Consul General Muhammad Raza Nazeri said that Iran’s spiritual leader Honorable Ayatollah Khamenei had also appreciated the work of Dr Shah. He said that Dr Shah’s work on Maulana Rumi will always be remembered. He said that Dr Shah produced the best students. He said that many high-ranking officials and literary personalities of Iran had condoled the sad demise of Dr Shah, expressed their condolence with his family and prayed for the elevation of his ranks. He said that it was an honor to organize the event in honor of Dr. Shah. He said that Iran respected Dr Shah a lot because he played an important role in the promotion of Persian literature.
Dr Khawaja Muhammad Zakria said that after tireless work, he covered all the concepts of Allama Iqbal’s poetry and published three volumes of Daira-e-Muarif-e-Iqbal. He said that Dr Shah treated his friends at his best. He said that Iranians also appreciated the Persian poetry of Dr. Shah. He said that Dr Akram Shah was a great scholar, teacher, researcher and poet. He had an exemplary personality.
Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar said that it was an honor that Ayatollah Khamenei appreciated the work of Dr Shah. He said that Dr Akram Shah played an important role in introducing Iqbal to the world. He said that Dr Shah was the best speaker and true lover of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW). He said that Dr Shah worked on a salary of eight thousand per month even in the present era. He kept doing it and when he became the dean, came to know the fact and sent a letter to fix his salary at least 50 thousand, Dr Shah expressed his displeasure and requested to reduce his salary. He said that Dr Shah used to keep records of official copy and pencil too. He said that Dr Akram Shah was the saint of the time.
Later, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Moeen Nizami thanked the participants and offered Fateha for the departed soul.
