The Punjab University (PU) Department of Plant Pathology (DPP) marked a significant milestone as it convened its inaugural research advisory board meeting at the PU Club. The gathering, attended by distinguished personalities including PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Chairperson of DPP Prof Dr Tehmina Anjum, Director General of PW&QCP Dr Ghulam Abbas, and representatives from various industries, aimed to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and the government sector in the realm of agriculture research promotion.
Addressing the attendees, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood commended the efforts of the DPP in providing a platform for stakeholders to address pertinent issues in agricultural research. He emphasized the importance of forging partnerships between academia and industry, recognizing agriculture as the backbone of the country’s economy. Dr Tehmina Anjum, Chairperson of DPP, echoed this sentiment, stating that the meeting served as a crucial step towards bridging the gap between different sectors.
The meeting saw active participation from representatives of leading industry players, including Rashid Ahmad from Crop Life Pakistan, Dr. Ahmad Saleem Akhtar and Dr. Khalid Hameed from Tara Group, Dr. Khalid Aziz from Rafhan Maize Products Co. Ltd, Muhammad Rizwan Younis from Guard Rice, and others. Discussions revolved around the commercialization of research conducted in universities and ways to enhance collaboration for the advancement of agricultural practices.
In parallel news, Punjab University continued its Sports Week festivities, featuring a range of competitions such as cricket, tug-of-war, badminton, table tennis, and more. PU VC Dr Khalid Mahmood emphasized the importance of sports activities in maintaining student health and vitality, applauding the efforts of the Director Students Affairs Dr Muhammad Ali Klasara and his team for organizing the event successfully across departments.
The Sports Week, aimed at providing students with both educational and recreational opportunities, has garnered enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. The competition, which includes both male and female categories, is set to continue with fervor on the following day.
