Punjab University (PU) Pakistan Study, Forum of Federations (FoF) in collaboration with German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) organized a consultative session on local Governance / Government on ‘Roles and Function of Local Government’ with the support of youth participation and local governance project.
On this occasion, Director PSC Prof Dr Naumana Kiran, Associate Professor Dr Amjad Abbas Khan Magsi, faculty members and students were present while FoF Coordinator Abru Haider was addressed online. Dr Naumana welcomed the participants and hoped that the consultation will bring pragmatic policy inputs from the youth. She said that this project took an innovative and practical approach to democratic governance education-supporting local youth-led problem-solving in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The speakers were of the view that youth participation in local government is important for the rights of people and focused on the development system of the welfare state. They stressed the need to enhance youth participation and said that it is very clear to make opportunities for youth to engage with local governments in the decision-making process with elected members. The students appreciated the activity which aimed to create avenues for the youth to address their needs, capacity building and create more opportunities for them especially related to Local Government.
