A professor at Punjab University (PU) School of Communication Studies (SCS) has sought all the documents related to the appointment of two recent professors at SCS and details of the recently held controversial selection board.
As per the document available with Academia Magazine, Professor Dr Shabbir Sarwar of PU SCS has filed an application to Information Officer Punjab University under the Right to Information (RTI) act to provide all the relevant data, documents and details of recently held controversial selection board during the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor PU Dr Niaz Ahmad.
Document no 704 PIO dated June 27, 2022, was titled, “Data/information required related to the selection board process for the Prof of Comm St and Prof on Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Chair under the Right to Information Act 2013”.
In the document, Prof Dr Shabbir Sarwar has sought the documents of the selection process for two seats including Professor at SCS and Professor on Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Chair.
He wrote in the application, “Kindly provide me following information under the RTI Act so that I can understand the situation and my standing on the merit in both the said posts of professor i.e. Professor of Communication Studies and Professor on Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Chair at SCS.”
Dr Shabbir further demands, “minutes of the faculty meeting to finalize the list of Panel of Experts along with faculty attendance, time, date of the meetings. The panel of Experts lists/names (along with their brief information and contact details) as provided/emailed by faculty members individually/jointly to the Director along with the email cover letter screenshots.
Names of a panel of experts are included by the Director SCS herself in the list along with details of experts. The final list of the panel of experts, with the signature of the Director and Dean, was received by the HR Department. Dean’s eligibility report.
Data excel sheets showing experience, publication etc of candidates, list of panels of experts, presented before the VC and the list marked by the Vice-Chancellor to take consent for the evaluation of candidates work.”
He continued, “Refusal email/s with the response text by a panel of expert, a new panel of the expert member if included at any stage and reason/justification for including/ticking new names from the list, Data size of candidates files shown in the emails sent to the Panel of Experts, evaluation reports received from the panel of experts with date and time, calculation formula tale list prepared by HR Dept based on the panel of experts, details of the payment made to the panel of experts from the list in both the said selection boards, proceeding of the selection board along with the order of the merit of candidates as evaluated by the panel of experts and finalized by the selection board, all candidates’ experience letters and verification reports.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Prof Dr Shabbir Sarwar has also written an application against the appointment of two female professors out of law and merit to Vice-Chancellor Punjab University Dr Saleem Mazhar.
