PU Seminar Emphasizes Skill Development and Research Innovation

Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood emphasized the crucial role of universities in developing skilled manpower during his address at a seminar on ‘Additive Manufacturing of Biomaterials.’ The event was organized by the Punjab University Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) in collaboration with the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at the Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology.

The seminar, held on Tuesday, saw the participation of notable academics including Prof Dr Wasim Haider from the University of Central Michigan (CMU) USA, President of the Pakistan Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineers Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Shuja, Director of the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering Prof Dr Mohsin Ali Raza, Acting Director ORIC Prof Dr Aqil Inam, Deputy Director Dr Khalid Mehmood, as well as researchers, faculty members, and students.

In his address, Prof. Dr Khalid Mahmood highlighted the importance of practical learning experiences such as workshops, seminars, and industry visits for Punjab University students. He praised ORIC’s efforts in enhancing PU’s ranking and acknowledged the global contributions of PU graduates. “All resources are being utilized to enable the students to work in the international market,” he stated.

Dr Wasim Haider, an expert in Mechanical and Materials Engineering, underscored the quality of education at PU, equating it to international standards. He encouraged Pakistani students to embrace modern technology to stay competitive.

Prof Dr Saleem Shuja remarked on the wealth of resources available to contemporary students, urging them to leverage these opportunities to hone their skills. “The students of the present era are fortunate in terms of resources. They should take advantage of the opportunities by improving their skills,” he said.

Acting Director ORIC Prof Dr Aqil Inam reiterated ORIC’s commitment to fostering a research-oriented culture at PU. He emphasized the institution’s focus on promoting global networking and strengthening links between industry and academia in alignment with the Vice Chancellor’s vision.

The seminar was a testament to Punjab University’s dedication to advancing research and practical education, equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in the global market.
