A Punjab University (PU) student was killed in a shooting incident near the university, prompting a sit-in by a student organization outside the campus. The demonstration caused significant traffic disruption on Canal Road, Barkat Market, and surrounding areas.

The student organization allegedly attacked the university’s admin block, vandalizing property, including flower pots and doors.

The injured student was rushed to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival. According to the hospital spokesperson, the body was handed over to the police for postmortem.

The university’s spokesperson clarified that the incident did not occur within the campus and accused the student organization of spreading false information. Meanwhile, the student organization claimed the victim was a sociology student at the university.

The hospital spokesperson added that the 22-year-old victim, identified as Rana Ammar Akhter from Kasur and a student of Gender Studies, was hit by three bullets in the chest, stomach, and leg. Despite efforts by doctors, he could not be saved. The situation at Punjab University remained tense following the incident.
