PU to devise 5-year Plan for Socio-Economic Development

LAHORE:  Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz has instructed the heads of all teaching departments to develop a five-year plan for socio-economic development of the country, improving international ranking of the university and producing skilled graduates with high moral values.

He was addressing a meeting of heads of all departments at Al Raazi Hall on Tuesday. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar and deans of various faculties participated in the event.

Elaborating his vision about the plan, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad said that this was the prime responsibility of the higher education institutions to serve the nation as well as society along with making contributions towards the body of knowledge. He said that it was our responsibility to help resolve the issues being faced by the common citizens and pay back to the tax payers in this way.

He instructed the HoDs to prepare a comprehensive strategy for improvement in international ranking of the university.

He urged them to enhance collaboration with foreign universities, increase the number of foreign teachers/students, improve student-teacher ratio and enhance the number of PhD faculty members.

The VC also formed a committee to be headed by Dean Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood for guiding the heads of departments in this regard.
