PU VC terms Iqbal Day as accountability day

Vice Chancellor (VC) Punjab University (PU) and Government College University (GCU) Lahore Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi along with other teachers, in connection with the birthday of Allama Muhammad Iqbal – Iqbal Day, attended Mazar-e-Iqbal, laid wreaths and offered Fatiha.

The day was a public holiday in all provinces and federal administrative areas of Pakistan until 2018. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Again restored it as a public holiday this year. Allama Iqbal, a poet and philosopher, was a great inspiration for the Pakistan Freedom Movement.

On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor paid tribute to Allama Iqbal in his comments in the book of visitors. He said that Iqbal Day is actually a day of accountability for us. He said that in view of the turmoil in the country, we should think about whether we have understood the teachings of Allama Iqbal in true spirit or if have we followed it in a correct manner.

He said that in view of the current situation of the country, it was necessary to benefit from the teachings of Allama Iqbal. He said that Iqbal’s philosophy was a beacon for the youth. He said that Shaheen in Iqbal’s poetry was not just a poetic term but he wanted to see these qualities in youth.

He said that we were proud that Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal had been student of Government College University and University of the Punjab.
