Punjab govt takes back notification of Islamic topics deletion from syllabus

LAHORE: The Punjab Human Rights and Minority Affairs (HU&MA) department department has withdrawn the notification of removing Islam related topics from regular school books after Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar took notice.

The Governor took notice of the recommendations of a one-member commission on minority rights headed by Sohaib Suddle seeking to remove Islamic topics textbooks.

The Governor stopped the education secretary from acting on the recommendations of the commission.

Punjab human rights and minorities department has issued a new notification directed to the School Education Department Secretary that Letter No SO/HR/HR&MA/1-7/2021/5-7 dated 1st April, 2021 on the above noted subject is hereby withdrawn with immediate effect.”

Earlier, Sunday, Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi met Governor Sarwar attended by SAPM Tahir Ashraf, Ruet-e-Halal Chairman Maulana Abdul Khair Azad and chairman of Wafaqul Madaris Maulana Hafiz Jallundhi.

The religious clerics expressed their concerns on the possible removal of Islamic topics from the textbooks.
