The Punjab government has announced an extensive budget of Rs42.5 billion for the school education department (SED) for the fiscal year 2024-25. This substantial funding is aimed at enhancing the quality of education through a range of developmental programs and initiatives.

A significant portion of the budget is focused on completing ongoing development projects, with Rs 6.87 billion allocated to ensure their timely completion. Additionally, Rs 2.6 million has been set aside for upgrading schools throughout Punjab.

To improve student nutrition, the Chief Minister has earmarked Rs 500 million for a school food program, which seeks to enhance nutritional standards for students across the province.

Furthermore, Rs 13.76 billion is dedicated to new development initiatives aimed at strengthening the educational framework. This includes significant funding for various projects to enhance the overall educational infrastructure.

To support alternative educational models, Rs 5.5 billion is allocated for outsourcing schools, while Rs 2.62 billion will support schools operating under public-private partnerships. The Daanish School Authority, which oversees a network of model schools, will receive Rs 2.5 billion for its ongoing operations.

In addition to regular school programs, Rs 1.83 billion has been allocated for afternoon schools to provide extended learning opportunities for students. To manage legal matters within the education sector, Rs 28 crore has been allocated for handling ongoing court cases.

Moreover, Rs 13.7 million has been set aside to fully operationalize the Children’s Library Complex (CLC) in Lahore, which will offer improved learning materials and resources.
