ISLAMABAD: A model of Punjab University was displayed in the Pakistan Day Parade on Thursday at Parade Ground near Shakarparian hills.
The Punjab University model was showcased on a float of Punjab province in which varsity’s heavy-set clock tower can be seen dominating the centre well above the main structure.
Punjab University is the oldest public university in Pakistan with multiple campuses in Gujranwala, Jhelum, and Khanspur. The varsity was established by the British government after convening the first meeting for establishing higher education institutions in October 1882 at Simla.
It is pertinent to note that parade showcased the local cultures of the four provinces as floats from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir were featured during the Parade.
President Arif Alvi attended the parade as the chief guest where Pakistan showed off its military might at the annual parade.
Earlier, Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) in a meeting of its Executive Council with President Dr Mumtaz Anwer Chaudhry in the chair demanded the Punjab Governor to approve the appointments of the faculty members.
PUASA said undue delay by the Chancellor office has created unrest among the community and varsity teachers would resort to gradual protest if the approvals further delay.
