The Punjab Higher Education Department will be organizing Punjab University Sports League 2019 among all public sector universities of the province, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz said on Monday.
The sports league would become an annual event, the minister added while presiding over a meeting to review the arrangements of the planned sports gala.
Raja Yassir said the objective behind the Punjab University Sports League initiative was to create opportunities for students to showcase their talent and provide them platform to prove their abilities before sports bodies for their selection at national and international level.
The minister said all universities would be placed in five groups, including a specific group for female universities. “Female teams of other universities would compete in their respective groups,” he revealed.
The first phase of sports league would start from the current month and HED had prepared a schedule for the league that would be announced soon, the minister added.
Raja Yassir said various sports would be part of the league but initially matches of cricket and football had been planned.
