QAU Hosts Seminar on Pakistani-Malaysian Relations

The School of Politics and International Relations at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad recently organized a seminar focusing on the multifaceted relations between Pakistan and Malaysia. The event featured His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan as the keynote speaker, highlighting the enduring and diverse connections between the two countries.

The seminar commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Dean of Social Sciences. Dr. Jaspal underscored the longstanding and dynamic nature of Pakistani-Malaysian relations, emphasizing the crucial role such academic events play in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassador Mazlan’s address covered several key aspects of the bilateral relationship. He delved into economic and trade relations, shedding light on Malaysia’s governance and development policies and the educational opportunities available in Malaysia for Pakistani students. He recounted the historical ties between Pakistan and Malaysia and elaborated on collaborative efforts in trade, investment, education, culture, and technical assistance. The Ambassador also highlighted the potential for further strengthening these ties through shared regional and international platforms such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He particularly emphasized ASEAN’s significance in Malaysia’s foreign policy and the substantial economic opportunities available in both regions.

Dr. Muhammad Nadeem Mirza, Director of the School of Politics and International Relations, concluded the seminar by reaffirming the importance of academic engagements in enhancing diplomatic ties. He encouraged students to pursue further studies and research opportunities in Malaysia, underlining the benefits of such academic and cultural exchanges.

Adding a cultural dimension to the seminar, students of the Department were treated to a delightful array of Malaysian cuisine, providing them with a taste of Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage and further enhancing their appreciation of Malaysian culture.

The seminar was well-received, with students and faculty alike gaining valuable insights into the depth and breadth of Pakistani-Malaysian relations. The event successfully highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue and collaboration in fostering strong international partnerships.
