A pivotal roundtable discussion titled “Character Mastery: The Key to Achieving Sustainable Success” was held at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad, drawing senior academics from across the country.

It brought together Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and senior representatives from 25 universities and institutions, fostering dialogue on the role of character education in higher learning.
The session was chaired by Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of QAU, with Dr Sumaira Rehman, Rector of Superior University Lahore, delivering a key address. Participants exchanged ideas and recommendations on integrating character development into educational frameworks to foster sustainable academic and societal success.
A noteworthy outcome of the discussion is that the recommendations from this forum will be presented at the 5th Rectors Conference, slated for November 27-28 in Islamabad. The forthcoming conference will serve as a platform to enhance collaboration among academic institutions and reshape Pakistan’s educational system.
The discussion highlighted the vital link between character mastery and academic excellence. Participants emphasized the need for universities to go beyond conventional curricula by embedding character education, civic responsibility, and core values into their programs. These efforts aim to equip students not only with knowledge but also with the moral compass required for leadership and social responsibility.
The event underscored that sustainable success in higher education hinges on producing graduates who excel both academically and ethically. Attendees stressed the importance of collective efforts to nurture a generation that can positively contribute to the nation’s progress through integrity, empathy, and civic engagement.
