Vice Principal of QMU London visits NAPA

Prof Dr Colin Grant, Vice Principal (International) of the Queen Mary University (QMU) of London visited the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi. Dr Grant who is on a visit to Pakistan at the invitation of the English-Speaking Union of Pakistan (ESUP), was accompanied by Mr Aziz Memon, Petron in Chief ESUP, Mr Majyd Aziz, Secretary General, Mr Irfan Qureshi and Ms Afshan Lalani, Members Executive Council ESUP.

Upon arrival at NAPA, the delegation was received by Chairman, Board of Directors Syed Jawaid Iqbal, President Emeritus Mr Zia Mohyeddin and Chief Executive Officer Mr Junaid Zuberi.

The meeting discussed potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions. CEO NAPA briefed Dr Grant about Academy’s academic programs and activities. Dr Grant appreciated the contribution of NAPA in providing quality training and education in performing arts disciplines. Later Head of the Music Department of NAPA and leading Sarangi Nawaz Dr. Taimur Khan and senior Faculty Member and Tabla maestro Ustad Bashir Khan presented an exclusive instrumental performance at the Zia Mohyeddin Theatre.

Dr. Grant, inspired by the performance, endearingly informed the group about “Medical Performance”, a unique and one-of-its-kind course in UK introduced as a collaboration between a medical university in the country and a theatre institution. He also showed keen interest in Tabla and walked up to the stage to get a closer look and enquired about the instrument and its history.

After the performance Syed Jawaid Iqbal, Chairman NAPA Board of Directors presented a bouquet and souvenir to Dr. Grant and briefed him on the recent reorganization within NAPA.
