The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore is facing an unprecedented wave of recheck requests after a significant portion of students failed the Class 9 exams this year. Out of 287,000 candidates, 150,000 students did not pass, sparking concern and frustration among students and their families.
Reports show that the History of Pakistan exam had the lowest pass rate, with only 12.5 percent of students succeeding. Other subjects also saw varying success rates, with Islamic History at 45 percent, General Math at 58 percent, General Science at 60 percent, Chemistry at 62 percent, and Mathematics at 63 percent. Civics recorded a pass rate of 66 percent, while 69 percent of students passed Physics.
In response to the high failure rate, thousands of students have turned to the rechecking process. The Lahore Board has already received numerous online applications, as students hope for a different outcome. The deadline for recheck requests is August 24. Students are required to pay a fee of Rs. 1400, which must be deposited at the bank before submitting their application online. The Board will notify applicants about the rechecking process through SMS.
Zahid Mian, Controller of Examinations for the Lahore Board, acknowledged the tough year for many students. He reported that out of the 287,000 students who appeared in the exams, only 127,000 successfully passed, leaving 159,000 students facing failure.
As students anxiously await the outcome of the rechecking process, discussions about the exam results have gained momentum across the region. Many are calling for a review of the education system and exam standards to ensure that students are adequately prepared for these crucial assessments.
