The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)‘s Regional Plan9 initiative at the University of Sahiwal has celebrated the successful conclusion of its fifth cohort. The program, designed to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship, witnessed significant interest, attracting 93 startups from the region eager to secure a spot in the prestigious initiative.

After two rigorous rounds of evaluation – including an elevator pitch and a final selection round – 15 promising startups emerged victorious. These selected ventures, comprising four members each, will receive comprehensive support over the next six months to turn their business ideas into reality. The support package includes a monthly stipend of PKR 80,000, dedicated office space, legal assistance, and mentorship from a diverse pool of experts from both industry and academia.

The final round selection process was overseen by a distinguished panel of judges from academia, industry and civil society, featuring notable figures such as Ms Saadia Mazhar from DW Urdu, Dr Qamar Zaman, HoD Business Administration at COMSATS Sahiwal, Dr Shaheera Amin HoD Commerce at Sahiwal University, Dr Muhammad Ayyoub Director ORIC – University of Sahiwal, Mr. Aqeel Ashfaq, DPR Sahiwal, Mr Shafiq Butt, Dawn Correspondent of Sahiwal and Engr Sajjad Nawaz from the Revenue Department. Their collective expertise, spanning academia, industry, and civil society, ensures the selected startups are well-prepared to navigate the challenges of launching and scaling their businesses.

PITB’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship through its Regional Plan9 initiative underscores its role in driving economic growth and innovation in Sahiwal. By providing essential resources and expert guidance, the program aims to empower a new generation of entrepreneurs capable of creating local job opportunities and contributing to the region’s economic development.

The fifth cohort’s success further solidifies Sahiwal’s position as a growing hub for entrepreneurial activity, highlighting the potential of technology-driven solutions in addressing local and regional challenges.
