The state-of-the-art facility spans 13,000 square feet and will house 17 full-time researchers dedicated to advancing collaborative scientific efforts between Pakistan and China. It is poised to become a hub for cutting-edge research across various disciplines, further solidifying the strategic research ties between the two nations.

Founded in 1912 by the renowned medical educator Yan Fuqing, HUCM has become one of the most prestigious public medical universities in China. Operating under the Hunan Provincial Department of Education, the university boasts two campuses—Jinxi and Jinhai—covering an area of 945,300 square meters. With a faculty of 4,642 professionals and 14,425 full-time students, HUCM offers 20 comprehensive undergraduate and graduate medical programs.

The naming of the research building is a tribute to Prof Dr Iqbal Choudhary’s exceptional contributions to science and his role in promoting Sino-Pakistan research collaboration. Prof Choudhary has played a pivotal role in establishing research centers that bring together scientists from both countries, fostering partnerships that continue to yield innovative breakthroughs.

Prof Choudhary, a towering figure in the global scientific community, has received numerous prestigious accolades, including the Mustafa (pbuh) Prize and various civil awards from Pakistan—Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. His contributions have also earned him international recognition, including the Friendship Award from China (2022) and the Golden Silkball Friendship Award.

Currently serving as Vice President of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for Central & South Asia, Prof Choudhary is a Fellow of several esteemed organizations, including the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World and the Royal Society of Chemistry in London.

The establishment of this research facility signals a new chapter in Sino-Pakistan scientific cooperation. By providing a platform for researchers from both countries to collaborate, the facility will contribute to advancements in medical and scientific research that can address regional and global challenges.

“This building not only represents an infrastructure milestone but also a symbol of deep-rooted friendship and partnership between China and Pakistan,” said an HUCM representative during the inauguration. “We look forward to the innovative research that will emerge from this collaboration.”

The new research center is expected to play a crucial role in nurturing talent and driving breakthroughs, further cementing the scientific ties between the two nations.
