Sahiwal University Celebrates World Soil Day

In a vibrant celebration of environmental awareness, the University of Sahiwal marked “World Soil Day” today under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Javaid Akhtar. This important event brought together students and senior water and soil scientists to emphasize the critical role of soil health in ensuring sustainable agricultural practices and environmental protection.

Organized by the Directorate of ORIC – University of Sahiwal in collaboration with Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) and the Soil and Water Testing Laboratory of Sahiwal, the event featured notable guest speakers including Mr Qadeer Ahmad (Regional Manager FFC Sahiwal), Ms. Nafeesa Muslim (Senior Soil Scientist) and Mr Muhammad Jamil Baig (Principal Scientist Soil & Water Testing Lab Sahiwal). They engaged attendees with informative discussions on soil management practices that can enhance productivity while safeguarding natural resources. Director ORIC, Dr Muhammad Ayyoub, opened the event by welcoming participants and highlighting the urgent need for collective action in preserving our soil resources.

In his closing remarks, worthy VC Prof Dr Javaid Akhtar emphasized that healthy soils are vital for maximizing agricultural output and play a crucial role in combating climate change—encouraging everyone to become advocates for sustainable practices.

The celebration not only educated attendees about soil conservation but also fostered a sense of community responsibility towards environmental stewardship. The University of Sahiwal continues to lead initiatives that promote sustainability through education and research.
