In a significant stride towards enhancing literacy across the nation, the University of Sahiwal hosted the launching ceremony for Prime Minister’s Roshan Pakistan National Literacy Drive, aptly named the “Each One Teach One Initiative.” This event is pivotal as it aligns with the government’s commitment to eradicate illiteracy and empower communities through education, showcasing the university’s dedication to social responsibility.

The ceremony was graced by esteemed Chief Guests, including the worthy Vice Chancellor of the University of Sahiwal, Prof Dr Javaid Akhtar and the Director Operations from the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT), Mr Sajid Ali. Their presence underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the pressing issue of literacy in Pakistan.

The initiative aims to mobilize individuals and communities to take an active role in teaching and mentoring those who lack basic reading and writing skills, fostering a culture of learning and knowledge sharing. The event was jointly organized by the Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA) and the Ministry’s National Commission for Human Development (NCHD).

During the event, speakers emphasized that this grassroots approach not only addresses immediate educational needs but also cultivates a sense of ownership and accountability within communities. By encouraging participants to teach one person, the initiative strives to create a ripple effect that can significantly elevate literacy rates nationwide. The event was largely attended by the representatives of all the universities in Sahiwal division, officers and officials of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, faculty members and administrative heads of University of Sahiwal and students of the Sahiwal division.
