In a significant development, the 88th Syndicate Meeting of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) was held at the university’s Syndicate Hall. The meeting, presided over by Meritorious Prof Dr Yousuf Khushik, Vice-Chancellor of SALU, marked a pivotal step in the institution’s progress, focusing on strategic decisions related to budgeting, scholarships, and research initiatives.

Despite these hurdles, he reassured attendees that efforts are underway to create a conducive environment for education, research, and overall student development.
“Our aim is to provide students with an education that equips them for a dynamic world,” stated Dr Khushik, emphasizing the university’s focus on high-quality research and teaching. He acknowledged the presence and support of the Syndicate members, both in-person and virtually, specifically mentioning Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Secretary of Universities & Boards, and Madam Sadiqa Salahuddin, the nominee of the Chief Minister of Sindh.
During the meeting, the Syndicate reviewed and approved several critical agendas:
– Approval of Annual Budget: The university’s annual budget for the financial year 2024-25, amounting to Rs. 3.5 billion with a deficit of Rs. 124 million, was approved. Director Finance, Mr. Shujaat Ali, presented the budget, which aims to address the financial needs of the institution while also investing in key growth areas.
– Increased Scholarships for Students: Recognizing the importance of supporting financially disadvantaged students, the budget for merit- and need-based scholarships was increased from Rs. 4.5 million to Rs. 7.5 million. This move reflects SALU’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students.
– Research and Development Allocation: An amount of Rs. 10 million has been earmarked to support research activities, academic collaborations, conferences, and faculty development programs. Additionally, half a million rupees has been allocated for expanding linkages and partnerships with other institutions.
– Implementation of Court Verdicts: The Syndicate also formed various committees to ensure the prompt implementation of court verdicts in line with legal requirements.
The members of the Syndicate expressed their appreciation for the Vice-Chancellor’s efforts in promoting transparency, research, and development at the university. They lauded the administration’s dedication to steering the university towards progress, citing improvements in academic activities and institutional management.
The meeting concluded with a vote of confidence in the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership and the collective efforts of his team in transforming SALU into a high-quality institution of higher education.
The meeting was attended by distinguished members including Muhammad Abbas Baloch (Secretary of Universities & Boards), Dr Nusrat Shah (HEC Islamabad Nominee & Vice-Chancellor Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana), Madam Sadiqa Salahuddin (Nominee of Chief Minister), Prof Dr Chandan Lal (Pro-Vice Chancellor, Shadadkot Campus), Prof Dr Maqsood Zia (Pro-Vice Chancellor, Ghotki Campus), Prof Dr Noor Ahmed Shaikh, and other notable faculty members and university officials.
