Sargodha University Strengthens Green Initiative with 500 Trees

In a significant step towards environmental conservation, the University of Sargodha has planted over 500 trees as part of the Punjab Government’s ‘Plant for Pakistan Drive.’ The initiative aligns with the Higher Education Commission’s objectives to contribute to the province’s afforestation goals.

The plantation drive was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, who planted a tree to mark the commencement of the university’s spring afforestation efforts. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mian Ghulam Yasin also actively participated in the campaign.

Several distinguished faculty members and officials attended the event, including Registrar Waqar Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Usman Minhas, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences Prof. Dr. Amir Ali, Director QEC Dr. Imran Ghafoor Chaudhary, and Resident Officer Dr. Faheem Arshad. Academic and administrative staff also joined hands to support the green initiative.

The ‘Plant for Pakistan’ initiative, launched by the Punjab Government, aims to enhance reforestation efforts and raise environmental awareness. As part of this drive, the University of Sargodha successfully planted 520 trees, including a variety of fruit-bearing and shade trees such as Kino, Guava, Peach, Pear, Plum, Apricot, Loquat, Bakain, Dharek, Conocarpus, and Pomegranate. All planted trees have been geo-tagged and uploaded onto the ‘Plant for Pakistan’ portal to ensure proper monitoring and documentation.

In addition to this plantation activity, the university previously planted over 1,000 trees in connection with the International Day of Forests. The event featured an awareness walk and a seminar highlighting the crucial role of forests in ecological balance and climate change mitigation.

The University of Sargodha remains committed to playing its part in environmental sustainability and will continue its efforts to promote green initiatives in the future.
