SAU holds Hari Melo & Conference on Agriculture Finance

“Hari Melo” and National Conference on “Farmers’ Access to Agriculture finance and Mango Production: Issues and Challenges” was held at Sindh Agriculture University, (SAU) Tandojam, organized by UBL, in collaboration with SAU and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Experts presented their dissertations on the issues and challenges facing agriculture and farming sector during the technical session. The opening ceremony of Hari Melo was held in the main auditorium hall of the university on Monday.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Fateh Murri, Vice-Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, said that agriculture played a vital role in the economic development of the country and the private sector should invest in the agriculture sector. He said that we must rely on pure seeds, healthy breeds of animals, agricultural value edition, value chain, and modern technology.

Dr. Marri said that 50% of the area of Sindh is arid and experts should prepare projects for producing organic crops, which can produce 100% organic vegetables and fruits.

Ikramullah Qadri, Senior Joint Director, SBP, said that they are promoting agriculture financing for farmers for agricultural development. In this regard, SBP has given instructions and policies to all banks. He said that SBP is offering 100 internships for SAU graduates in all banks and each bank should create 5 to 10 internship opportunities.

Dr. Rubina Wahaj, Director, FAO, Sindh, said that FAO was working to alleviate food shortage and poverty in Sindh, and was working on various projects, especially for the development of landless farmers and small farmers. She said that 6 million people in the country are suffering from malnutrition.

Progressive Farmer Syed Mehmood Nawaz Shah said that the banks should facilitate easy agriculture financing for Farmer and create a conducive environment for export.
Farmer leader Nabi Bux Sathio said that the agriculture sector is significantly increasing the GDP of the country, to increase it the problems of farmers should be solved and investment should be made in it.

Mr. Sohail Malik of UBL, Ajaz Soomro, Mohammad Ismail Kambhar, Abdul Sattar Narejo, Furqan Soomro, Ghulam Hussain Wagan, Mrs. Nida Asad and others also addressed the event.

Scholar Dr. Khalil Ibrahim from Turkey, Syed Nadeem Shah, Dr. Jan Muhammad Murri, Dean Dr. Qamaruddin Chachar, Dr. Altaf Siyal, Dr. Manzoor Ali Abro, Mir Amanullah Talpur, Dr. Ibrahim Kerio, Dr. Ziaul Hassan Shah, Registrar Ghulam Mohiuuddin Qureshi, Ms. Zahida Detho and others were also present,

Two technical sessions were also held on the occasion, in which experts presented their research papers, Stalls were also set up by various banks and agricultural private and government institutions, which were inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor and other guests.
