Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Sub Campus Umer Kot and Social Sector sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work on climate change and gender-based violence issues.
A MoU ceremony was held at Sub Campus Umer Kot among Dr. Jan Muhammad Marri, Pro Vice Chancellor and Saroop Chand Malhi Deputy Director Social Welfare Department, Ghulam Mustafa Khoso, Executive Director Sami Foundation, Mr. Mohammad Bux Kumbhar, Sukaar Welfare Organization, Faculty, Scholars, Social Activists attended the event.
Before the MoU signing, a meeting and dialogue were facilitated to highlight the gaps in the environment, water scarcity, and Disaster. The event aimed at promoting the message of saving the earth, and following environment-friendly practices through joint actions by community notables, faith leaders, and elected representatives.
On the occasion, Dr. Jan Mohammad Mari, Pro-Vice Chancellor said that we promoted good examples and through MoU with SPO, we will work more effectively on climate change and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) issues in Umer Kot and nearby districts. He shared some vivid examples of climate change in which he explained the roots and causes of climate change.
Mr. Shewa Ram Suthar Program Manager shared the objective of the event and the purpose of signing a MoU to work on Climate change and GBV issues in Umer Kot and Sanghar by engaging notables, and duty bearers, and elected representatives.
Mr. Muhammad Bux Kunbhar, Executive Director shared in his speech that, this joint work of SPO and SAU will bring positive results in district Umer Kot. Such a network is needed to work together on GBV and climate change issues, he said, adding that facts and figures on issues of gender-based violence, child marriage, and other child issues are more focused to work closely.
Mr. Saroop Chand Malhi Deputy Director of Social Welfare Organization shared that; the growing number of brick kilns surrounded by the human population is affecting the environment; we need to sensitize the owners of brick kilns as they have voluntarily moved the brick kilns from the populated area to another suitable place.
Mr. Ghulam Mustafa Khoso, ED Sami Foundation said that; it will be a great example that academia and NGOs are working together on climate change. He added that for a better environment, we should have 25 per cent forest land in our area, but unfortunately, we have only 4.5 per cent land dedicated to forests.
