The Selection Boards Action Committee (SBAC) of Karachi University (KU) on Tuesday demonstrated a protest demanding the execution of the 2019 advertisement for faculty members.

The committee in its statement said that a number of teachers have retired from services without getting due promotion in upper grades while some faculty members will be getting retirements in the near future. However, the varsity administration is not serious about conducting selection boards. Therefore, the teaching community of Karachi University is extremely disappointed because of the already delayed execution of the 2019 advertisement.

“This is the 3rd week of our continuous protest for the issuance of schedule for selection boards. There is neither any space for external pressures to stop the selection boards of any specific department in the University’s Act nor any compromise on the autonomous status of the University”.

The protesters said the KU administration holding selection for the blue-eyed faculty members and one of the selection boards of the 2019 advertisement was under process today. This behavior is unacceptable for the teachers who have been waiting for their selection boards.

The SBAC in its statement said that the protesting teachers would continue their protest until the issuance of a schedule for selection boards. There’s a need to implement a uniform policy for the selection board process like in other universities in Sindh. The archaic process of selection boards doesn’t hold the capacity to meet the needs of today’s global academic world.

“We will not spare any opportunity to make the Sindh government feel the grievances of the faculty members and will hold a press conference soon to identify the lacunae in the fulfillment of the due rights of the faculty members. Our protest and mobilization meeting will continue and a grand protest will be announced soon after the Ashura”.
