The public school teachers have reacted angrily to Punjab government’s decision to extend the winter vacations by another week.
The Punjab School Education Department on Monday announced an extension in the winter vacations on account of the severe cold wave that has gripped most parts of the country since the past week. The schools in Punjab were earlier scheduled to open on January 6, 2019.
Reacting to the development, Punjab teachers union spokesperson Kashif Shahzad said that this extension in vacations would create problems for students as well as teachers.
He said that schools had not yet conducted their December tests, while the Matriculation exams were scheduled to start from February 24 . “If the government is extending winter vacations, then a new date for Matriculation examinations must be also be announced,” the spokesperson said.
He observed that due to the extension in winter vacations, students might not be able to prepare well for their exams , therefore, a new date for the Matric exams should be announced.
