Schools in hotspot areas will remain closed till April 28

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mehmood, chaired an important meeting of an Inter-Ministerial Education Conference at the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC) and announced that schools in corona hotspots will remain closed till April 28 for grades 1 to 8.

The meeting was attended by provincial and federal health ministers, senior officials and NCOC officials and reviewed examination matters in the wake of the third wave of coronavirus.

According to details, the important meeting of the NCOC reviewed the Ramzan SOPs in consultation with scholars.

The meeting decided closure of educational institutions till Eid-ul-Fitr  on the recommendations of the health department.

The Health Department said that in view of the situation in Corona, educational institutions should be closed in 9 districts in Punjab till Eid.

On the other hand, Provincial Education Minister Murad Raas opposed the closure of educational institutions.

Punjab Education Minister announced that all examinations for classes 9 through 12 and O/A Levels will be conducted as per schedule in Punjab.

He said, “All Public & Private Schools classes 9-12 will be open only Monday & Thursday starting April 19th, 2021 in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sialkot, Sargoda, Faisalabad, TT Singh, RYK, Sheikhupura and DG Khan.”

Murad Raas said, “All Public & Private schools from classes 1-8 to remain closed until Eid in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Multan, Bhawalpur, Sialkot, Sargoda, Faisalabad, TT Singh, RYK, DG Khan and Sheikupura. Decision to be reviewed in two weeks.”

The NCOC also decided to start ninth and tenth classes with 50 percent attendance.

It may be mentioned here that 88 deaths in Punjab recorded due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, which is the highest ever since COVID-19 emerged in Feb 2020, as per the date shared by the NCOC this morning.
