Search Committee shortlists candidates for FUUAST VC position

The Search Committee of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) has shortlisted five names of the candidates to be appointed as regular Vice Chancellor of the varsity after the next varsity senate meeting to be held on June 2.

However, the varsity is yet to settle the agenda of the senate meeting. According to the sources, the final candidates are included Prof. Dr. Bilquees Gul who is currently employed at the University of Karachi, Dr. Shahid Qureshi of the Institute of Business Administration, Dr. Zaheer of the Karachi University, Canada based Dr. Athar Ata, and Prof Dr. Zafarullah based in Punjab.

Sources of the committee said that out of these five candidates, three names of three candidates would be sent to the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi who is also chancellor of the federal varsities.  Following the process, the chancellor would choose the final name out of three candidates for the position of Vice Chancellor.

A senior professor of the FUUAST said that Search Committee has no mandate to list the candidates as number one or two, but the decision-making body is the varsity senate in which senators would decide the fate of these five candidates.

He however said it is expected that President would prefer to appoint an appropriate candidate from Karachi.  Therefore, the candidates belong to Karachi University would be sent to the chancellor.
