Secretary MoFEPT Highlights Game-Changing Potential of AI in Education

Federal Secretary for Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT), Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, has highlighted the game-changing potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in reshaping teaching methods and boosting student learning outcomes. Speaking at a high-profile workshop aimed at harnessing AI to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills, Mr. Wani praised the exceptional talent of Pakistani students.

“Our students are incredibly gifted,” he said. “They are excelling in AI-driven projects, from creating videos and images to designing games, proving their capabilities far exceed conventional expectations.”

The event, organized by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in partnership with the National Institute of Excellence in Teacher Education (NIETE), took place at FG College of Home Economics and Management Sciences in Islamabad. Over 400 teachers and principals from grades 1 to 5, along with international donors and education experts, attended the workshop to explore AI’s role in transforming primary education.

Federal Secretary Wani delivered the keynote address, stressing AI’s ability to nurture critical thinking and creativity in students. Ms Gul-e-Zehra of FDE outlined the organization’s dedication to foundational learning, including a month-long literacy and numeracy program at the start of each academic year.

Mr Sam Wilson, Director of the Pakistan Foundational Learning Hub, warned against generic tech solutions, urging tailored strategies to address specific educational challenges. Dr Samia Dogar of the Federal College of Education provided practical tips for teachers on integrating AI into classrooms, while NIETE showcased its teacher training initiatives to enhance learning outcomes.

The workshop also featured student-led AI project demonstrations and a showcase of the Oxford Reading Buddy, an AI-powered literacy tool. The event concluded with a call for continued collaboration to embed AI into Pakistan’s education system, ensuring a brighter future for students nationwide.
