The Punjab Minister for School Education (SED), Murad Raas, has said that the department was focused on improving education quality in the province and a roadmap had been prepared to improve the standards.

Addressing an annual prize distribution ceremony at a private school in Lahore’s Qainchi area, the minister said a comprehensive strategy had been devised to improve the standards of small and medium-scale private educational institutions in Punjab so that the best-possible education could be provided to children who mostly belonged to the low-income families.

Raas said the government was working round-the-clock for the betterment of the education sector, adding that private schools were being encouraged to provide necessary educational facilities to the students, including sports and co-curricular activities.

He called on teachers to encourage students to take part in various co-curricular activities so that the passion of sportsman-spirit, confidence and leadership abilities is inculcated in them. He said education sector should not be treated as a money-minting machine, as its broader aim should be to transform the societal norms.

The minster added that private school owners should extend their cooperation to the government for spreading the light of knowledge in the society. Raas said teachers should also pay attention to character building of students, “because our children are the leaders of tomorrow” and this would help them emerge as useful citizens of the society.
