Videos circulating on social media, which have yet to be independently verified, showed students attacking each other with sticks and iron rods, and one video even depicted an individual firing a handgun into the air.
Secretariat police Station House Officer (SHO) Ashfaq Warraich, who was present at the scene, confirmed that at least seven students were injured, with one seriously wounded. He stated that the situation is under investigation, while law enforcement and university officials worked to restore calm.
A QAU employee later confirmed that the university was collecting information for filing a First Information Report (FIR), and that the situation had been brought under control. Police have begun evacuating hostels in line with government orders, and efforts are underway to prevent further violence.
The QAU administration issued a notification stating that the boys’ hostels would be closed from October 11 to 20 due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. Boarders were instructed to vacate the premises by October 11 and take their valuables with them.
This latest clash comes just weeks after a similar incident left 25 students injured, leading to the filing of an FIR by the Secretariat police based on a complaint from the university’s campus manager.
QAU Registrar Dr. Shafiqur Rehman and the director of public relations were unavailable for comment.
