Sindh education minister discusses restoration of learning activities

KARACHI: The Sindh Education and Labor Minister Saeed Ghani on Wednesday while chairing a meeting of the School Education and Literacy Department discussed the arrangements for the coming annual exams of Matric and Intermediate along with the revival of educational activities keeping in view the current situation.

The meeting was attended by the SLED Secretary Ahmed Bakhsh Narejo, Additional Secretary Dr Fauzia Khan, Chairman Sindh Board Committee and the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi chairman Dr Saeeduddin, and others.

On the occasion, the minister said that various proposals have been put forward in the meeting of inter-provincial education ministers and suggestions have also been sought from all the provinces regarding the restoration of educational activities and schedule of examinations.

He said that in the last meeting of the SLED steering committee, it was decided to conduct matriculation exams on July 1 and the exams for intermediate classes from July 28.

“In view of the  current situation, we have suspended the teaching process till May 23 in the light of the decision of the NCOC meeting and we will take up the matter further in the next meeting,” he said.

The chairmen opined in the meeting that all the boards have completed preparations to ensure that the examinations would be held on the scheduled dates and if the situation improves, we will be able to conduct the examinations on time.

The Provincial Minister directed the chairmen to consider other options as well and prepare a report and submit it to him. “In the NCOC and Inter-Provincial Education Ministers, I would be able to present the position of Sind”.

The minister further said that no final decision has been taken about exams of ninth and tenth classes. Therefore the chairmen of all the boards should consider all the issues. In the meeting, he also hinted that compulsory examinations of all classes including examinations from 1st to 8th classes would be made mandatory. No one would be promoted without examinations this year.
